ဒီနေ့ Google ကနေ Google+ (Google plus) ဆိုတာ စပြီး တရားဝင်ဆိုဒ် လုပ်ထားတာတွေ့ရပါတယ်။ ကြည့်လိုက်တော့ Social Networking ပုံစံမျိုးပါပဲ FaceBook ကို ယှဉ်တော့မယ်လို့ ထင်တယ်။ အရင်က လဲ ပြောရရင် Google Wave, Buzz တွေ လုပ်ခဲ့သေးတာပဲ ထင်သလောက် မအောင်မြင်သွားဘူး။ အခုတစ်ခေါက်လဲ နောက်ထပ် ကြိုးစားကြည့်တာ ဖြစ်ပုံရပါတယ်။

ကြည့်လိုက်တော့ demo က interactive နဲ့ ကာလာအစုံ နဲ့ စိတ်ဝင်စားဖို့ ကောင်းတယ်။ Group chat တင် မဟုတ်ပဲ video chat ပါပါတာက facebook ကို ငုတ်တုတ်မေ့သွားစေမယ် ထင်တယ်။ Facebook like လိုမျိုး Google+ button လဲ လုပ်ထားတာတွေ့ရတယ်။ တစ်ခု သဘောကျတာက Google+ နိုပ်ထားလိုက်ရင် သူက archive လုပ်ထားပေးပြီး bookmark သဘောမျိုး ဖြစ်သွားတာကြိုက်တယ်။ FaceBook ရဲ့ လိုက်ကတော့ ဘာမှ ထူးထူးခြားခြားမရှိဘူး rating ပေးရုံ page ကို ကြိုက်ပါတယ်လို့ ပြောရုံသက်သက်ဖြစ်နေတာပဲ။ ပြန်ရှာလို့လဲ မလွယ်ဘူး။ Google+ ကို စမ်းကြည့်လို့တော့ မရသေးပါဘူး အခုမှ demo လေးပဲ ကြည့်လို့ ရတယ်။ စကားမစပ် အခုလေးတင်ပဲ သတင်းတက်လာတယ် အရင်တုန်းက world largest social network ကြီး mySpace ကို အခု 30 Million နဲ့ ရောင်းတော့မယ် ဆိုပဲ။

Google lab ကနေ နောက်ထပ် beta tools အသစ်တစ်ခု တင်လာတာတွေ့ရပါတယ်။ Google Swiffy လို့ ခေါ်ပါတယ်။ သူက ပုံမှန် animation နဲ့ swf Adobe Flash ဖိုင်တွေကို HTML5, JSON နဲ့ အကုန် ပြန်ထုတ်ပေးတဲ့ converter ပါ။ ဂိမ်းတွေတော့ ပြောင်းလို့ မလွယ်ဘူးလို့ ပြောပေမယ့် vector graphics. embedded fonts, timeline animation တွေကို အသာလေးပြောင်းလို့ ရတယ် ဆိုပါတယ်။ နမူနာလဲ ကြည့်လို့ ရပါတယ်။ Google လဲ Adobe Flash ရဲ့ လွှမ်းမိုးမှုကို သိပ်မခံချင်ဘူးထင်တယ် ဘာလို့လဲဆိုတော့ Flash က open standard မဟုတ်ဘူးလေ။ မိုဘိုင်းဖုန်းတွေမှာလဲ သုံးလို့ မရ၊ အဆင်မပြေတော့ HTML5 လို open standard ကို အားပေးတဲ့ သဘောပါပဲ။

Gmail ရဲ႕ layout အသစ္ features အသစ္ကိုဒီေန႔မွ ေသခ်ာ စမ္းသံုးၾကည့္မိပါတယ္။ သတိထားမိေပမယ့္ မအားတာေၾကာင့္ မၾကည့္ၿဖစ္တာလဲပါပါတယ္။ အခုကေတာ့ Multiple Accounts ေကာ Google Contact ေကာ အၿခား ေကာင္ေတြပါစမ္းၾကည့္ၿဖစ္တယ္။ Google ရဲ႕ Multiple Accounts feature က ေတာ္ေတာ္အသံုး၀င္ပါတယ္ အရင္ကဆို အေကာင့္တစ္ခု၀င္ထားရင္ cookie ေၾကာင့္ ေနာက္ အေကာင့္တစ္ခု ၀င္ခ်င္ရင္ တစ္ခုထြက္ေပးရပါတယ္။ Firefox မွာဆိုရင္ plug in သံုးၿပီး၀င္ရပါတယ္။ အခုေတာ့ officially မလိုေတာ့ပါဘူး။

Google.com/accounts မွာသြားၿပီး Multiple Accounts Sign in ကို On ၿပီးရင္ အၿခား ကိုယ့္အေကာင့္ေတြ add လုပ္ verify လုပ္ၿပီးတာနဲ႔ သံုးလို႔ရပါၿပီ။ တစ္ခုပဲ multiple accounts က Google Apps သံုးထားတဲ့ email ကို support မလုပ္ေသးပါဘူး မလုပ္လဲ ကိစၥမရွိပါဘူး တၿပိဳင္နက္ထဲ browser တစ္ခုထဲမွာ အရင္ကတည္းက ဖြင့္ရေနတာပဲ။ ေနာက္ သေဘာက်တာက Google Contact ကို Gmail ထဲမွာ ထည့္ေပါင္းေပးထားတာပါ။ ကြ်န္ေတာ္က အရင္ကတည္းက mobile phone ထဲက contacts ေတြကို vCard နဲ႔ import လုပ္ထားၿပီး back up လုပ္ေနက်ဆိုေတာ့ အခု ထည့္ေပါင္းေပးလိုက္ေတာ့ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ ဖုန္းပါမသြားေတာင္ အီးေမးထဲမွာ သူငယ္ခ်င္း ဖုန္းနံပါတ္ေတြ အသစ္ထည့္လို႔ရတယ္ ၿပန္ရွာလို႔ရတယ္။

ေနာက္တစ္ခု မိုက္တာက Drag and Drop Maill Attachment files upload ပါလာတာပါ။ အဲဒါကေတာ့ HTML 5 အလုပ္လုပ္တဲ့ Safari, Firefox, Chrome ေတြမွာ ရပါတယ္။ ေတာ္ေတာ္မိုက္တယ္။ အရင္က အဲဒီလို drag and drop upload ဆိုတာ Java, Flash, AIR, Silverlight လိုမ်ိဳး 3rd Party runtime ေတြေပၚမွာပဲ support လုပ္တာပါ။ အခုေတာ့ HTML 5 နဲ႔ဆိုေတာ့ မိုက္တယ္။ အရင္လို ဖိုင္တစ္ခုကို browse တစ္ခါလုပ္ရတဲ့ ဒုတ္ခ မရွိေတာ့ဘူး။ ဒါနဲ႔ ဂ်ာနယ္တစ္ေစာင္က သတင္းေထာက္ တစ္ေယာက္လာေမးလို႔ Gmail မွာ Phone No မပါရင္ account သစ္ဖြင့္မရတဲ့ ၿပသနာပါ ရွင္းေပးၿဖစ္ပါတယ္။ အဲဒါက ၿပီးခဲ့တဲ့ႏွစ္ေတြကတည္းကပဲ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ မန္းေလးမွာ အကို အင္တာနက္ ကေဖးလုပ္ေနကတည္းက ရွိတဲ့ၿပသနာပါ။

ၿပသနာက ကြ်န္ေတာ္တို႔ ၿမန္မာႏိုင္ငံက National Gateway ကထြက္သြားတဲ့ request ေတြက IP address နည္းတာေၾကာင့္ ထပ္ကုန္ၿပီး Gmail Register မွာ spam လုိ႔ထင္လာၿပီး ေတာင္းတာပါ။ ၿမန္မာႏိုင္ငံကေန အေကာင့္ဖြင့္နည္းမယ့္ အခ်ိန္ ညဘက္မ်ိဳးထလုပ္ရင္ ရႏိုင္ပါတယ္။ ဒါမွမဟုတ္ ဖုန္းနံပါတ္ေတာင္းေနေသးရင္ ႏိုင္ငံၿခားက သူငယ္ခ်င္း၊ အမ်ိဳးဖုန္းနံပါတ္နဲ႔ လုပ္လိုက္လို႔ရပါတယ္။ ဒါေပမယ့္ အဲဒီ နံပါတ္ကို Google က SMS ပို႔ၿပီး verify လုပ္ခိုင္းပါတယ္။ တကယ္လို႔ မလုပ္ခဲ့ရင္ ၃ ရက္ေလာက္ေနရင္ အေကာင့္ကို ၿပန္ဖ်က္ပါတယ္။ ဆိုေတာ့ အရွင္းဆံုးနည္းကေတာ့ ရွိၿပီးသား ကိုယ့္ Gmail account ထဲ၀င္ၿပီးရင္ ဘယ္ဘက္က sidebar က Invite လုပ္ဖို႔ အခု ၅၀ ေပးထားတာကေန invite လုပ္လိုက္ရင္ရွင္းၿပီး phone နံပါတ္လဲ မေတာင္းေတာ့ပါဘူး။ အဲဒါကေတာ့ အလြယ္ဆံုး ေၿဖရွင္းနည္းပါပဲ။

ၾကံုေနတာနဲ႔ တစ္ခါထဲ အိုင္ဖုန္းထဲ၀င္ၿပီး Google Contact မွာ ရွိတဲ့ ဖုန္းနံပါတ္ အသစ္ေတြ update sync လုပ္ဖို႔လုပ္ရင္း Google iPhone App ကိုပါ ၿပန္စမ္းၾကည့္ၿဖစ္ပါတယ္။ Google App Voice Search ကို စမ္းလိုက္ေတာ့ ဟိုအရင္ေတြနဲ႔ မတူေတာ့ပဲ တကယ္ active ၿဖစ္လာတာေတြ႔ရပါတယ္။ အရင္ကဆို အသံထြက္မွန္သိတိုင္ေအာင္ အၾကိမ္ေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားမ်ား ေၿပာတာနဲ႔ သူရွာတာလြဲပါတယ္။ အခုေတာ့ gmail ဆိုၿပီး ရွာၾကည့္တယ္ ခ်က္ခ်င္း result ၿပေပးပါတယ္။ တစ္ခုပဲ English Dictionary မွာမရွိတဲ့ ၿမန္မာစကားေတြ ေတာ့ မသိေသးဘူး။ ဘာပဲေၿပာေၿပာ စာရိုက္ရတာထက္စာရင္ စကၠန္႔ပိုင္းေလာက္ ပိုၿမန္တဲ့ voice search က ဖုန္းေတြမွာ အသံုး၀င္တာ အမွန္ပါပဲ။ စကားမစပ္ပဲ Gmail Blog မွာေတြ႔လို႔ HTML 5 Gmail Icon game တစ္ခုပါေၿပာခ်င္ပါေသးတယ္။ ေဆာ့ခ်င္ရင္ MonoCubed.com မွာ ေဆာ့လို႔ရပါတယ္။ လက္စသတ္ေတာ့ ဒီေန႔က Google promotion လုပ္တဲ့ blog post ၿဖစ္ေနပါတယ္ ေပ်ာ္ရႊင္ပါေစ။ ။

လူေတြအတြက္ သင္းခ်ိဳင္းရွိသလိုု ေလယာဥ္ပ်ံေတြ အတြက္လဲ သင္းခ်ိဳင္းရွိတာကိုု ၿပီးခဲ့တဲ့ အပတ္ကေတြ႔လိုုက္မိတယ္။ Arizona, USA မွာ ရွိပါတယ္။ အေပၚက ပံုုမွာ ၿပထားသလိုုပဲ ေလယာဥ္ေတြ တန္းစီေနတာပါ။ အၾကီးၾကီးေတြကေန ေပါက္စေလးေတြထိရွိပါတယ္။ ရဟတ္ယာဥ္ေတြလဲ ရွိပါတယ္။ ရာခ်ီၿပီး ရွိတာမိုု႔ အၿပင္မွာ ေနရာအရမ္းက်ယ္လိမ့္မယ္လိုု႔ ခန္႔မွန္းရတယ္။ မ်ားလိုုက္တဲ့ ေလယာဥ္ေတြမ်ား အရုုပ္ေတြက်ေနတာပဲ။ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ကေတာ့ ဘာမွမလုုပ္ခ်င္ဘူး Counter Strike ထဲကလိုုပဲ ေသနတ္ပစ္တိုုင္း သြားကစားခ်င္တယ္။ ေအာက္မွာ ပံုုေတြ အေသးစိတ္ၾကည့္လိုု႔ ရၿပီး E Irvington Rd, Tucson, Pima, Arizona, USA ကိုု Google Map မွာ ၾကည့္လိုုက္ရံုုပါပဲ။ Google Map embed လုုပ္ထားတာမိုု႔ RSS က ဖတ္ရင္ေတာ့ ၿမင္ရမယ္ မထင္ပါဘူး ခင္ဗ်ာ။ ေပ်ာ္ရႊင္ပါေစ။

Google Buzz VS Your Privacy

Google Buzz ကို ဒီ ၂ ရက္အတြင္းမွာ ေတာ္ေတာ္လန္႔သြားတယ္။ အဓိကကေတာ့ privacy လံုးဝကို မလံုၿခံဳေတာ့ဘူး။ Google ဘာေတြလုပ္ေနလဲ မသိေတာ့ဘူး ဒီ ၂ ရက္အတြင္းမွာကို သူတို႔ တိတ္တိတ္ေလးေန႔ ၿပင္ေနတာ အမ်ားၾကီးပဲ။

Buzz ထဲမွာ ကြ်န္ေတာ့္ကို follow လုပ္ဖို႔ ကြ်န္ေတာ့္ကို ခြင့္ေတာင္းစရာမလိုဘူး။ follow လုပ္ၿပီးတာနဲ႔ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ တင္သမွ် Buzz messages ေတြအကုန္ ဖတ္လို႔ရသြားၿပီ။ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ မတင္ဘဲနဲ႔လဲ အၿခား Google က services ေတြ မွာ ကြ်န္ေတာ္လုပ္သမွ် Buzz မွာ update လုပ္ေနတယ္။ ဥပမာ Google Reader မွာ တစ္ခုခု share တာမ်ိဳးကို အကုန္ၾကည့္လုိ႔ ရေနတယ္။ ေနာက္ Gtalk Status message ကိုလဲ update လုပ္တယ္။

Google Profile မွာ ကိုယ့္ၿဖည့္ထားသေလာက္ information ကလဲ လူတိုင္းၾကည့္လုိ႔ရေနၿပီ။ အရင္က profile ကို hide လုပ္ထားလို႔ရတယ္။ အခု Buzz ထြက္လာေတာ့ profile က ကြ်န္ေတာ့္ message က နာမည္ကို ႏွိပ္လိုက္တာနဲ႔ တန္းၿပီး ၾကည့္ရံုပဲ ဖုန္းနံပါတ္ေတြ Geolocation ေတြမ်ား ထည့္ထားေသးရင္ ဘယ္နားေရာက္ေနတယ္ ဆိုတာပါသိရမယ္။ အရမး္ေၾကာက္ဖို႔ ေကာင္းတယ္ ေနာက္ Google က live Search လိုမ်ိဳးလုပ္ၿပီး လူတိုင္း messages ေတြကို ဝင္ရွာႏိုင္တဲ့ service မ်ိဳးလုပ္ႏိုင္ေသးတယ္။ မိုဘုိင္းဖုန္းကေန Nearby Search အခုလုပ္လိုက္ရင္ Buzz ကို မိုဘိုင္းဖုန္းသံုးေနတဲ့ သူေတြ (ၿမန္မာႏိုင္ငံသားေတြ) အကုန္ရွာလို႔ ရေနတယ္။

ေတာ္ေတာ္ေလးလန္႔သြားတယ္ ကြ်န္ေတာ္က VIP ပုဂိၢဳလ္လဲမဟုတ္ဘူး ကိုယ့္အေၾကာင္းကို ဖုံးထားမွ ၿဖစ္မယ့္ လူမ်ိဳးလဲ မဟုတ္ဘူး။ ဒါေပမယ့္ ကြ်န္ေတာ့္ အေၾကာင္းကို web ေပၚမွာ အကုန္ၾကည့္လို႔ ရေနတာကိုေတာ့ ေတာ္ေတာ္ေလးလန္႔သြားတယ္။ ေလာေလာဆယ္ Buzz ထဲမွာ Mashable လိုမ်ိဳးကို follow လုပ္လို႔ရတယ္။ သူတို႔ ဘာေတြ အသစ္တင္လဲဖတ္လို႔ရတယ္ comment ဝင္ေရးလိုက္ၿပီဆိုပါစို႔ အဲဒီ comment မွာပါတဲ့ ကြ်န္ေတာ့္ နာမည္ profile ကေန email ၿဖည့္ထားရင္ spam mail ပို႔လို႔ရၿပီ။ Geolocation နဲ႔ Buzz ကို update လုပ္ထားရင္ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ရွိတဲ့ ႏိုင္ငံကို လုိက္ၿပီး location based Spam ေၾကာ္ၿငာေတြ ပို႔လို႔ရၿပီ။ ေၿပာလို႔မရဘူး contact မွာပါတဲ့ ဖုန္းနံပါတ္ေတြကို mobile ဖုန္း ေၾကၿငာလုပ္တဲ့ သူေတြ location based နဲ႔ လိုက္ရွာၿပီး SMS ေၾကာ္ၿငာေတြ ပို႔လို႔ ရေနမယ္။ အနည္းဆံုး SMS နဲ႔ မင္းထီေပါက္ပါတယ္ ဆိုၿပီး လာတဲ့ အခ်ိန္ ထီထိုးထားမိရင္ ကြ်န္ေတာ္သာဆို ယံုမိေတာ့မွာပဲ။

Google Buzz က အမွန္ေတာ့ Twitter + FaceBook’s Like + Geolocation ေပါင္းထားတာပဲ။ Google က အခ်ိန္တို အတြင္းမွာ သူ႔ရဲ႕ Social Networking ဆိုဒ္ကို အၾကီးၾကီးၿဖစ္လာခ်င္ေတာ့ အတင္း force လုပ္ၿပီး ကြ်န္ေတာ္ ဘာမွ မသိလိုက္ရပဲ ကြ်န္ေတာ့္ Gtalk list ထဲက သူေတြကို follow လုပ္ထားၿပီးသားၿဖစ္ေနတာ ေတြ႔ရတယ္။ မလုပ္ရေသးတဲ့သူမ်ားဆိုလဲ Recommanded ဆိုၿပီး လာၿပေနေသးတယ္။ Spammer ေတြအတြက္ အေကာင္းဆံုး ဂြင္တစ္ခုလိုၿဖစ္ေနၿပီ bot မ်ားေရးထားၿပီး crawl လုပ္လိုက္ရင္ Buzz ကေန နာရီဝက္ေလာက္ အတြင္းမွာ email contact ေပါင္းသိန္းခ်ီရႏိုင္တယ္။ ၿပီးရင္ အဲဒီေကာင္ေတြ ကို business ေတြဆီ ေဒၚလာ ရာဂဏန္းေလာက္နဲ႔ ေရာင္းစား ပိုက္ဆံရွာလို႔ရတယ္။

ထြက္တာ ၂ ရက္ပဲရွိေသးတဲ့ Buzz ရဲ႕Privacy သတင္းကေတာ့ web ေပၚမွာ ေတာ္ေတာ္ေလးၿပန္႔ေနတယ္။ အခု ကြ်န္ေတာ္ေရးထားတာေတာင္ personal အၿမင္ပဲ ရွိေသးတယ္ security professional ေတြရဲ႕ articles ေတြ အခုပဲ “Google Buzz Privacy” ဆိုၿပီး ရွာလိုက္တာေတာင္ result 66,300,000 အဲဒီေလာက္ထြက္ေနၿပီ။ ကြ်မ္းက်င္တဲ့သူေတြ ေရးထားတာကို ရွာဖတ္ၾကည့္ေလ Buzz က ေၾကာက္စရာေကာင္းလာလာေလေလ ၿဖစ္လာတာနဲ႔ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ကေတာ့ Buzz ကို လံုးဝပိတ္လိုက္ၿပီ။ ပိတ္ခ်င္ရင္ Gmail ေအာက္ဆံုးမွာ turn off buzz ဆိုၿပီး ရွိပါတယ္။ အဲဒီကေန ပိတ္လို႔ရပါတယ္။ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ကေတာ့ Buzz သံုးလိုက္ကတည္းက online privacy နဲ႔ပက္သက္ၿပီး shock ရသြားတယ္ ပထမဆံုးဘဲ။ Google လိုမ်ိဳးက သူ႔ product ေအာင္ၿမင္ဖို႔ဆို ကြ်န္ေတာ္တို႔ privacy ကို ခ်နင္းဖို႔ ဝန္ေလးပံု မရဘူး။

Google Buzz Buzzing Around The Web Again!!

Google ကေန ဒီေန႔မနက္အေစာမွာ မီဒီယာေတြကို Mountain View ေခၚၿပီး product အသစ္ၿပတာကို ေတြ႔ရတယ္။ Google Buzz ဆိုတာကို မိတ္ဆက္ေပးတယ္။ Buzz လို႔ နာမည္ မသိခင္ကတည္းက အရင္က Google Gmail မွာ Social မီဒီယာ အသစ္စမ္းေနတယ္ဆိုတဲ့ သတင္းေတြ ဖတ္ခဲ့ရတယ္။ Buzz ဆိုတာနဲ႔ ၾကည့္လိုက္ေတာ့ Twitter Clone တစ္ခုလိုပဲဆိုတာေတြ႕ရတယ္။

Twitter လိုေတာ့ မိုဘိုင္းဖုန္း friendly 140 Characters သတ္မွတ္မထားဘူး။ Integrated Image upload ရတာေတြ႔ရတယ္။ Gmail မွာ ထည့္ထားၿပီး လူသံုးမ်ားလာေအာင္ ၾကိဳးစားေနတာကိုလဲ ေတြ႔ရတယ္။ API ထုတ္ေပးထားေတာ့ မၾကာခင္မွာ 3rd Party Applications (Mobile Apps) ေတြထြက္လာမွာ ေသခ်ာတယ္။ Geolocation ကို အသားေပးထားတာေတြ႔ရတယ္။ Default အေနနဲ႔ ဖြင့္ေပးထားတယ္။ ဆိုေတာ့ privacy ၿပသနာရွိႏိုင္တယ္။ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ဆို Twitter မွာလဲ Geotagging သံုးတာပါပဲ။

ဒါေပမယ့္ Google ကိုေတာ့ နဲနဲလန္႔တယ္။ သူက လူသံုးမ်ားလာခဲ့ရင္ Buzz ကို search engine မွာ၊ Google Map မွာတြဲၿပီး real time search ဆိုၿပီး လုပ္သြားႏိုင္တယ္။ အဲဒီက်ရင္ ေသၿပီဆရာပဲ အနည္းဆံုးေတာ့ ေဘာ္ဒါေဘာ္ကြ်တ္ေတြ Geolocation နဲ႔ ရွာၿပီး ပိုက္ဆံခ်ီးဖို႔ လိုက္လာႏိုင္ေသးတယ္။ ပိတ္ထားမွပါပဲ။ ေလာေလာဆယ္ 3rd party iPhone App မရွိေသးေပမယ့္ Buzz.Google.com ကေန သံုးလို႔ရတယ္။ Screen Shot ေတြလဲ ထည့္လိုက္တယ္ ေၿမပံုေတာ့ေဖ်ာက္ထားတယ္ဗ်ာ ေကာင္မေလးေတြ အိမ္လိုက္လာၿပီး မိတ္ဆက္မွာ စိုးလို႔ =P

မေန႔ညက လုပ္စရာရွိတဲ့ ဘန္နာဆြဲတဲ့ အလုပ္ရယ္၊ သူငယ္ခ်င္း တစ္ေယာက္ အတြက္ CD layout ရယ္ ဆြဲၿပီး မအိပ္ခ်င္ေသးတာနဲ႔ Google’s Chrome ကို စမ္းၾကည့္ ၿဖစ္ပါတယ္။ 20 things about Google’s Chrome ပို႔စ္မွာ ကြ်န္ေတာ္ ေၿပာခဲ့ သလိုပဲ Chrome က WebKit ကုိ သံုးတဲ့ အတြက္ layout design ေတြမွာ IE အတြက္လို သီးသန္႔ လိုက္ၿပင္စရာမ်ိဳးေတြ မရွိပါဘူး။ သံုးရတာလဲ ၿမန္တယ္ အဆင္လဲေၿပပါတယ္။

The Difference Between Google Knol & Wikipedia Encyclopedia

a) Wikipedia has one page per topic but that limit is relaxed on Google Knol – multiple authors can write on the same topic at different places.

b) Wikipedia is currently free of advertising but contributors at Know do get an opportunity to monetize content that they share on Knol through Google AdSense.

c) All content on Wikipedia is available under “GNU Free Documentation License” but Google Knol users can pick any of the Creative Commons licenses for their articles.

d) On Wikipedia, you cannot create pages for self-promotion while that’s not the case with Knol as their content policy clearly says – “You may use Knol to create articles for your business or to promote your lawful products or services.”

e) Anyone can edit (most) pages on Wikipedia but with Knol you have an option to invite only selected reviewers / experts to change pages that you have created. This prevents vandalism though the scope is limited only to experts whom you know.

Google has been developing a new algorithm for indexing textual content in Flash files of all kinds, from Flash menus, buttons and banners, to self-contained Flash websites. Recently, we’ve improved the performance of this Flash indexing algorithm by integrating Adobe’s Flash Player technology.

In the past, web designers faced challenges if they chose to develop a site in Flash because the content they included was not indexable by search engines. They needed to make extra effort to ensure that their content was also presented in another way that search engines could find.

Q: Which Flash files can Google better index now?

A: We’ve improved our ability to index textual content in SWF files of all kinds. This includes Flash “gadgets” such as buttons or menus, self-contained Flash websites, and everything in between.

Q: What content can Google better index from these Flash files?

A: All of the text that users can see as they interact with your Flash file. If your website contains Flash, the textual content in your Flash files can be used when Google generates a snippet for your website. Also, the words that appear in your Flash files can be used to match query terms in Google searches.

In addition to finding and indexing the textual content in Flash files, we’re also discovering URLs that appear in Flash files, and feeding them into our crawling pipeline—just like we do with URLs that appear in non-Flash webpages. For example, if your Flash application contains links to pages inside your website, Google may now be better able to discover and crawl more of your website.

Q: What do I need to do to get Google to index the text in my Flash files?

A: Basically, you don’t need to do anything. The improvements that we have made do not require any special action on the part of web designers or webmasters. If you have Flash content on your website, we will automatically begin to index it, up to the limits of our current technical ability (see next question).

That said, you should be aware that Google is now able to see the text that appears to visitors of your website. If you prefer Google to ignore your less informative content, such as a “copyright” or “loading” message, consider replacing the text within an image, which will make it effectively invisible to us.

Q: What are the current technical limitations of Google’s ability to index Flash?

A: There are three main limitations at present, and we are already working on resolving them:

1. Googlebot does not execute some types of JavaScript. So if your web page loads a Flash file via

JavaScript, Google may not be aware of that Flash file, in which case it will not be indexed.
2. We currently do not attach content from external resources that are loaded by your Flash files. If your Flash file loads an HTML file, an XML file, another SWF file, etc., Google will separately index that resource, but it will not yet be considered to be part of the content in your Flash file.
3. While we are able to index Flash in almost all of the languages found on the web, currently there are difficulties with Flash content written in bidirectional languages. Until this is fixed, we will be unable to index Hebrew language or Arabic language content from Flash files.
